The BIPOC Family Excursion Program is an experiential, multigenerational education program for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth and their families. The purpose of the program is to create safe spaces for BIPOC youth and families to build community, strengthen family and peer bonds, explore identity, and learn from and engage with a variety of BIPOC role models. These outstanding educators and facilitators include scientists, artists, business owners, cultural heritage conservators, tradespeople, activists, and community organizers.
The program aims to create safe spaces for building community connections and strengthening family bonds while offering essential mentorship for BIPOC youth. Some of our goals are to address the lack of representation of BIPOC educators and emphasize the importance of community involvement in supporting the success of BIPOC youth. Through the support of their families and multigenerational community, the youth are able to explore the significance of identity and belonging through cultural reclamation and preservation. Our programs range from health and wellness to modern and traditional cultural arts, traditional agricultural practices (food systems), culinary arts, Indigenous land stewardship and culture keeping and revitalization, as well as various sciences including marine biology and electrochemistry.
We are excited to continue growing our program and to nurture our connections and support for our youth!"
