Currently Teen Leadership Clubs are offered only at the YMCA of Sequim. These clubs are designed to be a place for teens to connect, grow and learn valuable life skills while giving back to the community. Each club session is 10 weeks and addresses different themes specific to life skills that can lead to job development.
These clubs are geared for youth ages 12 - 15 years old. Space is limited.
Swim Lesson Instructors In Training
Teens will learn how to be a future swim lesson instructor. This club will focus on learning stroke techniques, teaching tips and tricks, fun and informative games/ activities and how to provide effective feedback.
Teens will also learn what criteria to look for at any level, how to plan and execute a successful group swimming lesson and what they need to do in case of an emergency.
After completing this 10 week session, teens will be eligible to volunteer to help with swim lessons and swim league at the YMCA, giving them valuable experience in a safe and supportive environment.
*Teens 12-13 yeas of age who successfully complete the 10 week session will be certified in Basic Life Support and Adult First Aid. They are welcome to take the YMCA Instructor Safety Assistant (YISA) course for experience, but cannot gain certification. Teens 14-15 of age who successfully complete the 10 week session will obtain all of the above as well as Emergency use of Medical Oxygen and YISA certifications.
Babysitters Club
Over the course of this ten week session, teens can learn how to start a business in babysitting and learn skills such as changing diapers, preparing food and first aid.
Teens will also learn what toys and games are appropriate for what age level, what they need to do to prepare themselves for babysitting and what to do in case of an emergency.
After successfully completing the 10 week session, teens will be able to volunteer to help with YMCA of Sequim summer camps and Play Care, giving them valuable experience in a safe and supportive environment. They will also gain the following certifications: Babysitter, Pediatric CPR/AED, and Pediatric First Aid.
